Conservation Activities with Afoot

Afoot is involved in a number of conservation activities either on a voluntary basis or with students as part of their voluntary service for the Duke of Edinburgh programme.

Wilding Pines

Afoot supports The Hawkes Bay Wilding Pine Control Trust - an entity specifically set up in conjunction with DOC to manage wilding pines in the Kaweka & Ruahine Forest Parks.   Refer www.hbwildingpinecontrol.org.nz for more information and to join up and attend volunteer activities.

Future dates are also listed below (these are updated regularly).  We can also put together a bespoke day for groups that may wish for a specific date.

Pest Trapping

Afoot undertakes pest trapping work either as part of school programmes or with students during their Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journeys.

Other Voluntary Activities

Afoot in conjunction with FMC is currently undertaking an improvement project at Waipawa Forks Hut in the Ruahines.

DOE Service Opportunity at Bronze and Silver Award Levels

Students will volunteer to be trained on how to find and clear wilding pines.  The area also has a line of traps which will also be checked and logged.  This will help control rat, stoat and possum numbers in the area so further protecting flora and fauna.
