Boundary Stream
A day trip (Grade - Easy) to one of only six "Mainland Island" restoration projects undertaken by DOC.
The 800 ha Boundary Stream Scenic Reserve is located one hour north of Napier and is ideal for day trips with easy tramping and for experiencing New Zealand flora and fauna.
The pest eradication programme sees the wide range of plants providing an environment for increasing number of native birds such as tui, bellbird, rifleman, tomtit, fantail, whitehead, silver-eye, grey warbler, kereru and morepork.
Shine Falls in the park is spectacular at 68m and is a great place for a picnic (and a swim for the brave!). Side trips to Lake Opouahi Kiwi Reserve, Lake Tutira and White Pine Bush can be included in this day trip.

Bell Rock
Bell Rock is a fabulous viewpoint on the Maungaharuru Range north of Napier with stunning views to the west towards the Kaweka and Whirinaki Forest Parks.
This is a relatively easy three hour return walk and can be incorporated with trips to Boundary Stream and Shine Falls for a full day.

Mangatainoka Hot Springs
Visit one of the hidden jewels of Hawkes Bay. Just a three hour trek along the beautiful Mohaka River brings you to Te Puia Lodge
A short walk upstream brings us to the thermal pools. A therapeutic rest and a dive into the cool Mohaka beside is truly invigorating!
Two days, one night (Grade - Easy/Medium)
Keen fisherman return via the river, as an alternative up to Makino Trig and back along the ridge
Complete the trip with another rest, this time in the Mangatutu Hot Springs at Blue Gum car park

Tramp in, Raft out option - Kaweka Ranges
Afoot can organise an overnight or multi-day tramp in the Kaweka Ranges with an option to raft out on the Mohaka Riiver with our friends at Mohaka Rafting.
There trips are a real treat for families, corporate team-building and schools.

Ruahine Crossing

Follow the route taken by the first pakeha across the Ruahines
Visit the Colenso cairns on both sides of the ranges

The longest stretch of unroaded wilderness in the North Island
Volcanic tussock valleys, fishing in the Mohaka and Ngararoro Rivers, the famous Maingatanoika Hot Springs

Waikamaka Catchment & The Maropea River

If you unsure of your fitness levels treks can easily be planned with alternative routes . In fact, due to unforeseen weather, often best-laid plans need to be altered anyway!
