Clothing
- Worn-in tramping boots (with ankle support)
- Socks including spares (so four pairs if you wear two); best not synthetic
- Thermal/polypropelene leggings (2)
- Thermal/polypropelene tops (3)
- Shorts
- Long trousers (optional - definitely not jeans)
- Polar fleece top
- Rain jacket
- Woolly hat
- Peaked cap
- Swimwear
Evening Items
- Sleeping bag
- Bed mat or bed roll / sleeping mattress (if camping)
- Toiletries and toilet paper
- Torch and/or headlamp
- Book/playing Cards
Safety
- Use a pack-liner inside your pack (however waterproof the pack claims to be)
- Sunglasses
- Suntan lotion
- Cell phone (see note below for schools/DOE trips)
- Foil survival bag
- Water bottle
- Water purifying tablets (optional - water usually ok)
Food
- Cater for an extra night (in case of emergency)
- Dried pasta meals, rice or pre-prepared
- Crackers/bread
- Energy bars
- Chocolate
- Scroggin

Some important "no's"
- No running shoes or boots without ankle support (except for Bronze DOE trips)
- No backpacks that are really suitcases with back straps
- No old boots that have been glued back together
- No cotton (gets wet, stays wet)
Notes for Duke of Edinburgh trips
- No electronics (cellphones are not allowed on Bronze Duke of Edinburgh trips)
- Tents - to be shared between groups of 2 or 3
- Lunches not to require cooker; so pre-prepared.
