Afoot is an Recognised Award Provider (RAP) with The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Aotearoa New Zealand Hillary Award.
Why Duke of Edinburgh ("DOE")?
It is part of a worldwide network that provides young people with a balanced, non-competitive programme of individual challenge through which they can make constructive use of their leisure time.
The Award programme provides a framework for personal discovery and growth through Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journeys: developing perseverance, responsibility to self and to the community.
The flexibility of content within the programme structure, and the national and international recognition that the Award attracts make it an effective and challenging opportunity for young people with a wide range of backgrounds and interests. Increasingly, employers and interviewers are recognising the Award as an indicator of responsibility and achievement.
Adventurous Journeys
Afoot provides Journeys to a variety of destinations and appropriate to knowledge, experience and age of the students.
These trips are suitable for international students and groups undertaking DOE Adventurous Journeys. We also provide Bronze, Silver & Gold level training modules and act as Award Leader for schools and students if required. We get some great feedback reflecting the challenge but also the enjoyment:-
"The tramp was exceptionally fun. The views were stunning and the walks long hard and satisfying. I will certainly be doing Gold Duke of Ed and look forward to the 4 day tramps. I had an amazing time thank you." Silver DOE student.
Afoot also organises Adventure and Initiative Races for camps and leadership courses.
Tu Manawa
Afoot is proud to be supported by Sport Hawkes Bay and the Tu Manawa Active Aotearoa Fund. This funding is designed to encourage activities by youth/rangatahi that may not normally participate in our trips by enabling us to offer reduced cost to some. Please contact us for more information.
Gold Residential Programme
Residential Programmes qualifying for the Gold Award are held annually and are based around conservation and recreation activities in the Kaweka Forest Park.

Training for Bronze & Silver sessions are held to cover either or both of the classroom theory and practical parts of the syllabus.
Please note that if training, as per the Award requirements, has not been completed and evidence entered into the ORB, before the Practice Journey, the activity will not fulfil the Award requirements, and the Award will not accept the Journey activity.
For Journeys and Training groups can be made up of students from different schools (our preference) and a mixture of male/female.
Contact us by email or phone to discuss these, or other, options.
Afoot is supported by MacPac. DOE students are eligible for 30% discount off normal price on MacPac branded products in store.
